Trump approval ratings plummet to new low, polls show
President says ‘I’m doing great’ despite polls showing 32% approval rating and loss of support from 2024 voters
Donald Trump’s approval ratings reached a record low on Monday, according to new opinion polls.
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Trump’s approval rating at a record-low 32%. That polling included the president losing support among independent voters and Latinos, who had backed him in 2024. The dip could prove dire for the Republican party a month ahead of the midterm elections that will determine control of Congress. Continue reading...

Created by and starring Ed Kavalee, along with every other comedian in Australia and New Zealand, this Channel 10 police comedy feels less directed than crisis managed

No reputable scientist ever put forward the equation that more comedians equals a greater number of laughs. If one ever did, they could be pointed in the direction of Cop This, an onerously unfunny telemovie stuffed to the gills with Australian and New Zealand talent, most of them seasoned comedians. The cast includes – deep breath – Ed Kavalee, Nicolette Minster, Ray O’Leary, Gary Sweet, Rob Carlton, Tony Martin, Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann, Dane Simpson, Celia Pacquola, Luke McGregor, Rob Sitch, Josh Lawson, Julia Morris, Dave Hughes, Dilruk Jayasinha, Lizzy Hoo, Tommy Little, Claire Hooper, Ryan Moloney, Lawrence Mooney, Mick Molloy, Glenn Robbins, Tom Gleisner, Kate Langbroek and Grant Denyer.
Those with even a passing familiarity with local comedy would know this is a formidable collection of talent, even if most do little more than hobble around for a scene or two, looking sheepish, fruitlessly trying to inject some life into languid dialogue and limp comic scenarios.

House of Stassi: never before has reality TV been this self-aware – and truly brutal
After being cancelled, former Vanderpump Rules star Stassi Schroeder is fighting for redemption with her own show – never mind what her family and friends think
Across the 2010s, Stassi Schroeder was the star of Vanderpump Rules, the hit reality TV show that tracked the near-psychopathic interpersonal relationships between the staff at Lisa Vanderpump’s peak-millennial restaurant SUR. From the moment she appeared on screen – all statement necklaces and crispy flatironed hair – it was clear that Schroeder was an early master of the reality genre. While the cast were all villainous in their own ways, she stood apart for her singular mix of charisma and chaos.
For eight years, Schroeder slapped her friends, belittled her bosses, bullied other women, insulted customers and was generally terrible at her job. But despite the frequent physical and psychological violence, she remained a firm audience favourite. In the years since, she has spoken about the impact this kind of adoration can have on a person: the worse she behaved, the more she was rewarded with attention from producers and the adoring – and admonishing – public. For a time, she was the people’s princess of darkness. That was until 2020, when she discovered there are limits to what even blond, leggy reality TV prodigies can do. Continue reading...
Alice Zaslavsky’s shortcut beetroot baked risotto – recipe
An unconventional technique makes this vibrant rice – finished with dill fronds – a lower-touch dinner for weeknights

This shortcut risotto will have purists shaking their fists, but I like to live dangerously. Unlike traditional risottos where you stir the whole time, this one gets bunged in the oven with all its liquid, then right at the end, use a whisk to release the starches for a creamy finish.
Use a microplane to grate the parmesan over the risotto. This will yield a cloud-like consistency, but you could also just blitz the parmesan to a crumb in the food processor before grating the veg. I’d avoid buying pre‑grated parmesan, as it’s kept crumby with anti-caking agent, and the aroma is … not great. Continue reading...
