'Lame-duck president' Macron notes 'failures' after France unrest
French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday rejected Interior Minister Laurent Nunez's resignation. The move came in response to weekend protests, during which nearly 2,400 people were arrested and almost 1,000 police and gendarmes injured on Saturday. Marseille cleans up after looting and vandalism in protest
Rubbish littered the streets of Marseille on Sunday, one day after demonstrations against rising living costs and declining public services spiralled out of control in some of the worst violence France has witnessed for decades. On Saturday, black-clad protesters broke into Marseille's city hall and defaced the building with graffiti, while public buildings were also targeted in other French cities.
