A total of 410,000 people took part in demonstrations across France on Saturday – including 110,000 in Paris – as part of a day of rallies focussed on purchasing power and the defence of public services, the Interior Ministry told AFP. The turnout was slightly lower than last week, which saw 550,000 people take to the streets. Meanwhile, according to the union responsible for organising the authorised events, 800,000 people participated in the demonstrations nationwide on Saturday, with 250,000 in the capital. Clashes broke out in several cities, including Paris, Lyon, Rennes, Nantes, Bordeaux, Nice, and Marseille. Matthew Mary-Caruchet shares further details.
